Founder Dr. P. Roy Vagelos Hosts First Annual FAITH Scholars Luncheon

Dr. P. Roy Vagelos, a Founder of the FAITH Endowment, hosted the first annual FAITH Scholars Luncheon on January 10th at Estiatorio Milos in New York City. Past and present recipients of the FAITH Scholarships for Academic Excellence were celebrated at the luncheon and were given the opportunity to meet Dr. Vagelos, share their career and academic goals and connect with fellow scholars.

While the FAITH Scholars in attendance represented a diverse range of majors and universities, from statistics at Columbia University to biochemistry at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute to economics at the University of Mississippi, all possessed the academic excellence and magnificent spirit of charity, philanthropy and good citizenship in line with FAITH’s mission.

“I am very pleased to recognize the exceptional talents and accomplishments among these candidates who will be preparing to take on the many challenges facing people around the globe,” said  Dr. Vagelos, who also chaired the FAITH Review Committee which evaluates the scholarship applications.

Over the last decade, FAITH has awarded over 300 college scholarships to young people who display the scholarly intellect lauded by their Hellenic ancestors and a strong spirit of community service and good citizenship found at the core of their Greek Orthodox Christian values and faith.  In 2016, FAITH was pleased to award 42 FAITH Scholarships for Academic Excellence and 16 “FAITH Scholarships for Excellence in STEM,” a continuation award established under the umbrella of the FAITH Scholarship series that supports all four years of a candidate’s undergraduate studies.
