Greek Language Text Books

In 2007, FAITH began its supports of exciting program that produced a series of new books for the truly effective comprehensive teaching of the Greek language and culture.

From 2008-2014, grants from FAITH supported the development and completion of the this project of monumental linguistic, social, and historical importance to people of Hellenic descent in the United States and especially for the children and future generations of our community. FAITH supported the publication of 5 new textbooks, Ta Ellinika Mou, (levels: Kindergarten, 1A, 1B, 2 and 3) for Greek Language instruction for our the Greek Language and Culture schools across the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America.

The books were authored as an international linguistic collaboration with research teams at the University of Athens and at the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese Office of Greek Education (authors: M. Teleiopoulou, A. Madas, I. Giavaras, I. Ioannou); the books are the most sophisticated and comprehensive effort in Greek language instruction to be done to date.

The series is truly pedagogically unique as it was developed specifically to teach Greek to American children and was tested by experts in American classrooms as it was being developed. Each fall, every student enrolled in the elementary and intermediate Greek Language and Culture classes receive a complimentary set of books from this new series.
