2019 FAITH Scholarship for Academic Excellence Application Now Available

March 20, 2019—“FAITH: An Endowment for Orthodoxy and Hellenism” is pleased to announce that the 2019 FAITH Scholarship for Academic Excellence application is available to download at thefaithendowment.org/scholarships. Eligible applicants must be a member of a Greek Orthodox parish and be a graduating high school senior enrolling in a 4-year accredited U.S. university this fall. Scholarships are merit-based and can range up to $10,000 in value.

FAITH Founder and Scholarship Review Committee Chair Dr. P. Roy Vagelos spoke on behalf of the FAITH Founders saying, “The Founders of FAITH are proud to support this important initiative to inspire the best and brightest young people to become future leaders within our community and their professional fields.”

To date, FAITH has awarded over 400 FAITH Scholarships to some of the most accomplished young members in the Greek and Hellenic community. Earlier this year, many of these accomplished young people, including scholarship recipients from as far back as 2012, attended the FAITH Scholars Luncheon in New York and had the special opportunity to meet Dr. Vagelos, network with other FAITH Scholars and celebrate their academic and career achievements.

“The support of a Greek American organization like FAITH encourages me to connect to my culture. I love being Greek, and I am so happy to feel supported by something so central to my identity,” said Elizabeth Siefert. Elizabeth received the FAITH Scholarship in 2015 and will graduate with a degree in cognitive neuroscience from Brown University this summer.

FAITH Scholars represent all metropolises and enroll in universities across the nation ranging from UCLA to Columbia University and pursue a diverse set of career paths from neuroscience and education to government and aerospace engineering. These exceptional young people play integral roles inside and outside the classroom as leaders in their churches, communities and schools and garner high recommendation and praise from their mentors and teachers for displaying the scholarly intellect lauded by their Hellenic ancestors with a strong spirit of community service and good citizenship in line with their Greek Orthodox Christian values.

“I am so grateful to FAITH for offering a scholarship that supports Greek students across the country and celebrates all aspects of our culture and traditions, and I look forward to giving back to a community that has invested so much in me,” said Maria Manolias. Maria received the FAITH Scholarship in 2018 and is now a freshman majoring in education at Michigan State University.

All applications must be sent by mail and postmarked by June 17th, 2019.  Scholarship recipients will be announced in August. Applicants are encouraged to follow www.facebook.com/faithendowment for updates.
